Motorcycles are more prone to accidents as well as fatalities. The accidents are caused due to other vehicles or obstructions coming in its path or riders error. It’s important to load your ATV the right way and that requires some know-how. If you don’t load properly, you may be putting yourself at risk of an accident. And you also risk damaging your equipment. Keep reading to find out exactly how to load and secure your ATV onto a pick-up or trailer.

If you are loading onto a trailer, be sure to hitch the trailer to the tow vehicle before you load your ATV. That way the trailer won’t rock or tip during loading.

Use only those ramps that have a loading capacity that can handle the combined weight of the four wheeler, along with any equipment that is attached to it. Remember that if you ride your ATV up the ramp, your weight counts in the total as well.

Riding your quad up ramps can be fairly dangerous. Accidents can happen when loading isn’t done the right way. If you do load by riding up the ramps, be sure to take the precaution of wearing protective gear like boots, gloves, goggles, and helmet.

When you load, use the lowest possible gear to go up the ramp. Avoid making jerky stops or starts while climbing the ramp. Don’t approach the ramp at high speeds. If you do, there is the potential for the ramp to buckle or even ram into the back of the pick-up or trailer.

The safest way to get your ATV loaded is with a winch. This method lets you be away from the quad as well as giving you a lot more control over the speed as well as more precision in the loading process.

Once your ATV is safely loaded, be sure to balance its weight over the pick-up or trailer axle, so the load is distributed evenly. Set the parking brake on the quad before securing it to the bed of your trailer or pick-up, using tie down straps.

You should plan on using two straps at the front of the ATV and two straps at the back. After that, ratchet the straps down as tightly as is possible. The straps should be ratcheted tightly enough to lock the ATV in place even if it is rocked. The tires should look as if they are under load.

Then take the time to loop and secure any excess strap lengths so they don’t end up flapping or dragging. After that’s all done you’re ready to hit the road and head for your destination with your ATV.

To get your bike or ATV to the trail, you’ll probably need to load it up in the back of your pickup. This is another place where it pays to be safe. Denny Hamlin ended a sophomore slump of sorts when he won the rain delayed Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway. The win was Hamlins first of the season and broke a 50 race winless streak. His last victory had come in 2008 at Martinsville Raceway.

After the race, an emotional Hamlin dedicated the victory to his grandmother who passed away late last week at the age of 91. His grandmother reportedly followed his career closely and watched every race:

She understands the competition of the sport and she understands how much she means to me. Like today, she’s pretty proud. We definitely had some angels with us today.”

Hamlin has always raced well on the unique triangle configuration track at Pocono. He swept both races here as a rookie in 2006 and after the race his boss J.D. Gibbs made note of that fact:

I told him earlier, we’re going to lobby for a few extra races at Pocono”

Hamlin moved up to fifth in the NASCAR championship points standings after the victory. Tony Stewart increased his points lead over second place Jimmie Johnson to 197 points with a top ten finish.

Juan Pablo Montoya finished second, moving him up to 8th place in the overall points standings. Clint Bowyer finished third and expressed pleasure with the solid performance in his postrace comments:

“Things haven’t been going our way all year long so it feels good to have something swing our way.

Former Indy Car driver Sam Hornish, Jr. took fourth”his best finish since coming to NASCAR. Kasey Kahne rounded out the top five.

Points leader Stewart will have a good opportunity to increase his lead this weekend, as NASCAR heads to Watkins Glen, NY to race on the road course there. Stewart is considered not only the best road course driver among current NASCAR competitors, but arguably the best of all time.
